Damage Related Socio-Economic costs

Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en analyse des organisations (CIRANO) published an interesting report on damage related socio-economic costs to underground infrastructure and they have created a tool on the evaluation of the annual costs. Authors indicated that the indirect costs incurred in Quebec by damages to underground infrastructure totaled more than $123 million in 2016.

More specifically, this research aimed to identify and quantify the total damage related costs of underground infrastructure in Quebec. The results served to encourage damage prevention as well as to help develop best practices among contractors, municipalities, infrastructure owners and work providers. For the first time in Quebec, a study was conducted to assess not only the direct costs (damage repairs) but also the indirect costs (economic evaluation) of all the disruptions caused by damages.
